Nature & Bike along Sile river up to the Venice lagoon
Follow the Sile river by bike from Treviso to the Venice lagoon through naturalistic oases, lush cultivated fields and the “burci”, evidence of the ancient trade of Venice with its hinterland.
The bike path along the Sile river winds along secondary roads, away from traffic and in close contact with nature, starting from the historic center of Treviso and proceeding along the alzaie (“towpaths”), used centuries ago to towing boats upstream by land.
We will continue to the island of Villapendola, the Green Lake and the Burci cemetery, ancient boats from the Venetian era.
Following the easy paths along the river, we will reach Portegrandi, the entry point into the lagoon and the original mouth of the Sile before the Venetians diverted its course to the east.
We will continue admiring unexpected views of the lagoon and the islands of Torcello and Mazzorbo, decing whether to return to Venice or continue along the river Piave Vecchia returning by train from San Dona di Piave.
